Llerena crowns the new Spanish falconry champions in an exciting championship

The municipality of Llerena, in the province of Badajoz, became the epicenter of national falconry this weekend with the celebration of the Spanish Falconry Championship in the categories of Pigeon Falconry, Pointing Dog Falconry, and Low-Flight Falconry. More than 60 falconers participated in a competition characterized by an extremely high technical level, with bird flights reaching almost 500 meters in altitude.

Arrogance to Paloma

In the Pigeon-to-Dove competition, Darío Ajo from Castile and León, with his bird "Segismundo," won, earning 125.15 points. He was followed by Richard Morán from Catalonia with "Navajita," who earned 111 points, and Sebastián Moreno from Murcia with "Galileo," who achieved 110.82 points.

In the Pointing Dog category, José María Acedo from the Basque Country, along with his bird "Black" and his dog "Kenya," took first place with 195 points. José Vázquez from Madrid, with "Aries" and "Bravo," took second place with 172 points, while Francisco Santos from Castilla-León, with "Fco. Pedro" and "Lara," finished in third place with 148 points.

Low-flying goshawk

In the Low-Flight Goshawk category, Pablo Muñoz from the Balearic Islands and his goshawk, "Optimus," were crowned Spanish champions with 38 points. Alberto Dulanto from the Basque Country, with "Zaira," achieved 33 points, and Antonio Martínez from Castilla-La Mancha, with "Hispana," completed the podium with 26 points.

The Higher Sports Council, the Extremadura Hunting Federation, and the sponsoring and collaborating entities that made the event possible, including Browning, Winchester, Miroku, Legia, HART, ISUZU, and various public and private institutions, were acknowledged for their support.

Next meeting in Villarejo de Salvanés

The Spanish Falconry Championship will continue on February 15 and 16 in Villarejo de Salvanés (Madrid), where the following categories will be contested: Low Flight with Harris, Low Flight with Pointing Dog, and Small Birds to Quail.
