Memoirs of a Sheepdog
Pablo Fominaya, a passionate chamois hunter, decided to embark on an unprecedented adventure: hunting five species of chamois across Europe. This challenge, which seemed crazy to many, was carried out with determination, knowledge and a deep love for nature. Throughout his journey, Pablo not only faced difficult terrain and extreme weather conditions, but also captured every moment in a series entitled “Memorias de un Rebaquero” (Memories of a Chamois) in collaboration with the Tikka brand and produced by Young Wild Hunters. This documentary series chronicles his exciting expeditions in search of these elusive animals, revealing the difficulties and satisfactions of hunting in some of the most stunning regions of the continent.
Five episodes, five chamois
Episode 1: Hunting in Vercors
Pablo's adventure begins in the majestic valleys of Vercors, France . This destination, dreamed of by many hunters, presents a unique challenge: open terrain where camouflage is almost impossible. Accompanied by Ignacio Ducay, Pablo faces the steep hills and the difficulty of staying out of sight of his prey. The thrill of hunting in such an iconic location is matched by the complexity of the terrain, making this first episode a perfect introduction to the difficulties and satisfactions that await throughout the series.

Episode 2: The Essence of Chamois
The journey continues in the French pre-Pyrenees , where Pablo, guided by Franck Almagro, goes in search of the elusive chamois. This episode takes us through dense forests and treacherous scree, where hunting becomes a game of patience and precision. The density of the terrain and the cunning of the chamois test the hunters' skills, creating an atmosphere of tension and anticipation as they try to get close enough for a clean shot.
Episode 3: The Romanian Hook
The Romanian Carpathians are the setting for the third episode, where the weather becomes the biggest adversary. Persistent rain forces Pablo and Ignacio to seek shelter for much of the morning, hampering their ability to track and approach the chamois. However, a lull in the bad weather gives them the opportunity to make an entrance on a group they have spotted in the distance. This episode highlights the importance of patience and adaptability in hunting, especially in environments as unpredictable as the Carpathians.
Episode 4: Hunting for Extremes
In this episode, Pablo returns home, but the hunt is no less challenging. In the Picos de Europa , one of the most emblematic hunting grounds in Spain, Pablo sets out to hunt in two different seasons: summer and winter. The climatic differences between both seasons completely change the rules of the game, forcing our hunters to adapt their strategies and techniques in order to get hold of several chamois in the area. The duality of this hunt offers a complete view of the different ways in which the climate can influence hunting.
Episode 5: Snow, Isard and Cooking
The grand finale of the series takes us to the Catalan Pyrenees , where a spectacular snowfall creates a setting as beautiful as it is challenging. Pablo and Ignacio, armed with patience, travel through the vast valleys in search of the best specimens of isard. But this episode is not just about hunting: at the end, our protagonists relax and enjoy the fruits of their labor, preparing a special recipe with chamois meat. In addition, Pablo shares valuable advice on what to take with you into the mountains, ensuring that you are prepared for any eventuality.
"Memorias de un Rebequero" is more than a hunting series; it is a tribute to the passion, dedication and respect for nature that defines Pablo Fominaya. Through his episodes, Pablo not only shares his experiences in hunting chamois, but also transmits the essence of hunting as a tradition that connects man with his environment. Each episode is a lesson in perseverance, adaptability and love for nature, making this series an unforgettable testimony of the hunting adventure.
