Preparing the roe deer season

#corzo #rececho #temporada

After an exciting hunting season, it is time for a month of rest in March, with its gaze fixed on April 1st. This date marks the start of the male "wood elf" stalking season. An animal that fascinates everyone who knows it, due to its behaviors and peculiarities, the properties and great flavor of its meat and the dream of a precious trophy.

Where to hunt it?

In Spain, the roe deer is distributed evenly throughout the Pyrenees, the Basque Country and the Cantabrian Mountains up to the Sierra de Los Ancares in Lugo, and the Montes de León, from where it has colonized a large part of Galicia. In Portugal it appears naturally north of the Duero River.

As we can see, the cervid is distributed throughout a large part of the Iberian Peninsula. Although it should be noted that not all roe deer are the same, influenced by the climate, the environment or the vegetation.

On these dates, the adult males leave the forests towards meadows and prairies where it is easier for them to find food, and it is in these places where we can usually find them to make the set.

roe deer trophies

For years, "the goblin" has re-emerged as an interesting trophy for hunters. Until not long ago, it was only hunted for its meat, very rich in protein and of high culinary value.

The roe deer population in Spain has increased exponentially since the beginning of the century, this causes damage and losses to the land of farmers in the area. In addition, they are one of the main ones affected by outbreaks of diseases such as scabies. These cervids have the particularity that as many females as males are born and, therefore, hunting management must be aimed at maintaining this balance, an aspect that historically has not always been taken into account, basing the pressure in many territories almost exclusively on the males. In this episode of our first official series, you will be able to see the genetic problem that can occur if females are superior to males.

The roe deer trophy has gained value in recent times, since its hunting in the stalking mode is an activity that generates great adrenaline. In addition, the prices of the seals are not as exorbitant as those of other game species.

In general, we will only see it for a few seconds, and it is in that period of time when we will have to decide whether to shoot or not. In addition, it is an animal that will not give us many opportunities, so a few seconds of doubt can be decisive.

Data such as the height, the length and thickness of the antlers, the pointiness of the antlers, the skin tone... help us a lot to know how to differentiate a good adult from a young person who should not be shot down.

What do we recommend for stalking?

Binoculars

It is possibly the most useful tool to deal with a stalking of any species. Binocular vision provides images with relief, in three dimensions and with depth. These characteristics are fundamental when we are analyzing and selecting the roe deer of your dreams. By clicking on the photo you will find some of our best recommendations.

Knives

Once the animal that has been killed has been thoroughly enjoyed and analyzed, it is time to cut it up and take advantage of the meat. For this, a good knife is necessary, as well as a sharpener so that your trusted weapon does not fail you when you least expect it. We offer you this field sharpener in pocket format that you can purchase by clicking on this photo:

bags of meat

A star product in any type of hunting, they will help you transport the meat from the place of the set. All this with a large capacity to fit the entire roe deer and can be moved hygienically and comfortably anywhere. They are also reusable if you wash them, you can buy them by clicking on the photo.

tactical clothing

Something that cannot be missing in your days in the mountains, a good kit. Both boots and tactical clothing will make your stalking adapt to any unforeseen weather or any unexpected condition. We recommend our parka that you can buy by clicking on the photo.

tripod or bipod

The last thing we want after weeks of observing the best trophies is to fail a cast due to lack of stability or the nerves of the moment. To do this, in this blog you will find the best recommendations for tripods and bipods, so that poor stability does not take its toll on your day. In the blog that you will find by clicking on the photo, we recommend the best ones.
