Vapor Line Tether and Lineman Belt ropes are constructed with a core of a proprietary blend of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (commonly known as Amsteel ), which is pound for pound stronger than steel and impervious to water absorption . The exterior is covered with a tightly woven, interwoven polyester fiber sheath that provides high UV protection , abrasion resistance , and is water repellent .
